Contemporary DanceHistory
The CZECH DANCE PLATFORM Festival, which each year presents the best of Czech dance, is popular not only with Czech audiences, but also local and foreign professionals.
The dramaturgical council made up of independent experts in the field of dance (critics, curators, producers, representatives of dance schools, etc.) selects around 10 of the most interesting performances of the past year.
An important part of the Platform is its rich accompanying program, such as Meet the Artists, site-specific projects, the Reading Dance Atelier, discussions, presentations and much more.
Past years
Tanec Praha began to organize this festival on the model of similar professional platforms in Europe. The first Czech Dance Platform was a humble review of Czech dance works held in the space of the Duncan Centre Conservatory (1994).
For the next five years the festival took the form of a high-profile event in Hradec Králové named Entrée to Dance.
On the occasion of the general meeting of IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts) in Prague in April 2000, the Platform definitively returned to the capital city with the aim of using the space of the newly reconstructed PONEC Theatre as well as other Prague venues (Alfred ve dvoře, Duncan Centre, NoD Experimental Space, DISK, Švandovo divadlo, La Fabrika, Archa Theatre, Studio ALTA, and others).
The Czech Republic is the one country in the former Eastern Bloc where the Platform has been held annually.
