MgA. Zuzana Smugalová is a graduate of Scenic Dance at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague (1997) and the field of Dance Science at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Prague

Work experience

She is an independent publishing dance critic and theorist and works as a teacher of dance and movement education.

She was the initiator of the concept of Taneční aktualit.cz, their founder and at the same time the first editor-in-chief (2005 - 2010).

At the same time, she participated in the creation and management of the editorial board of the magazine for stage dance Pam pam (2004 - 2011) published by NIPOS-ARTAMA, where she worked as an "editor of dance literature" (2007 - 2011).

She taught the subject History of Dance and Ballet at the 1st Private Conservatory Ivo Váni Psota (2003–2010)

From 2001 to the present, he has been systematically teaching dance and movement education in his own Studio Po špičkách in Roztoky near Prague.

As a theorist, she focuses on critical reflection and analysis of contemporary dance art and related theatrical genres and their domestic development on the professional and amateur scene (in 2007-2011 she systematically participated in the conceptual activities of the field of scenic dance). 

It has long been realized in the theory and practice of the field of dance and movement education.

Her other professional interests include research into dance historiography, especially the period of the first half of the 20th century a) and its context in the current form of the art of dance. In 2018, she completed the manuscript of the book Pohyb rytmus výraz jednoho století (Movement Rhythm Expression of a Century) - supported by the MKČR scholarship, which deals with the development of Czech art modern dance and dance education during the 20th century. 

She was always interested about czech dance folklore, which she regularly monitors and recently is also interested in the context of the existence of community dance styles such as dancehall, techno, etc. 

Since 2014 she has been a member of the CID UNESCO International Dance Council and in 2020 she became a member of the professional organization for contemporary dance and movement theater Vize Tance z.s.
